Events and Activities Included in the Quest

The events and activities that are part of the Acadia Quest program have been split into three categories: Explore, Learn, and Protect. Teams must fulfill the requirements for each category in order to be eligible for the grand prize drawing. Visit the rules page for a full list of requirements.

National Junior Ranger Day*
Sat., April 24, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

A fun field-day for families with children ages 5 to 12; explore, learn about, and protect Acadia National Park through a wide variety of outdoor activities.

Earth Day Roadside Clean-Up
Sat., April 24, 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Spend the morning cleaning up the roadsides of Mount Desert Island and the gateway communities--you can make a difference this Earth Day.

Family Fun Day*
Sun., July 11, 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Celebrate summer in Acadia. Join Friends of Acadia and park rangers for special field-day activities.

Join the crew of regular volunteers: Tue., Thurs., and Sat., 8 a.m. - 12 p.m., weather permitting, from late May to early October

Wed., Aug. 18, 1 - 3 p.m.
Sat., Aug. 28, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Self-Guided EarthCache

Bring your GPS unit and explore on your own. Acadia's EarthCache Program offers you an exciting opportunity to explore the park while learning more about its geological story.

National Trails Day *
Sat., June 5, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Spend time with Acadia National Park trail crew learning about trail history.

Teams must participate in the guided hike portion of the event in order to get "Learn" credit.

Spend time with Acadia National Park trail crew learning about trail history, or help kick off the volunteer season with a spring project in the park.

Quest teams must participate in the clean-up portion of the event to get "Protect" credit.

Ride the Island Explorer

Catch the fare-free, propane-powered Island Explorer and ride into the park. By using the bus system, you are reducing the number of cars and emissions in Acadia National Park.

Ranger-led Programs
Daily from late May to October

Join a park ranger and explore Acadia on hikes, boat cruises, and specially-designed children's programs.

Take Pride in Acadia Day
Sat., Nov. 6, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Join the more than 300 people who gather each year to rake the carriage roads and help prepare them for winter. You'll be rewarded with a chili, cornbread, and cider lunch with dessert! Plus, the grand prize drawing for Acadia Quest will be held that day.

Team's Choice Self-Guided Activity

Almost any outdoor activity that is in the park will count, including: hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming, visiting the Sieur de Monts Spring area, camping, tidepooling, fishing, taking a carriage ride, or taking a ranger-narraged boat cruise.

Remember, only one of these activities will count towards Acadia Quest requirements!

Visit the Hills Cove Visitor Center

Pay a visit to the Hulls Cove Visitor Center - self documentation requires.

Ride the Island Explorer

Island Explorer Bus Routes and Schedules

Explore Schoodic or
Isle au Haut


In addition to Mount Desert Island, Acadia National Park also extend onto a portion of the Schoodic Peninsula, near Winter Harbor, and on Isle au Haut. Self documentation required.

Visit the Islesford Historical Museum on Little Cranberry Island

Please note that you must purchase a ferry ticket in order to reach Little Cranberry Island.

Plant a Native Tree

Please note that you may not plant your native tree on Acadia National Park land.
