Friends of Acadia prioritizes the health and safety of our members, volunteers, staff, and communities. As part of a long-standing business continuity plan, we are taking appropriate steps to comply with public health advisories while maintaining critical operations. We thank people in advance for their patience if some inquiries or responses are inadvertently delayed in this process. Our physical offices at 43 Cottage Street, Bar Harbor have been closed until further notice, so please be in touch by phone or email as our staff works from remote locations.
As the situation involving COVID-19 evolves, we will, with guidance from the Maine CDC, continue to evaluate the scheduling, scope, and appropriateness of our public events and meetings. Notification of postponements, cancellations, and other changes will be publicized as soon as possible on our website and social media platforms.
As for Acadia National Park itself, the park remains open for now, although visitor services are minimal. The park motor roads other than Ocean Drive remain closed to vehicular traffic and the park carriage roads are also closed to avoid damage during mud season. If you do take an outing in the park, please follow best practices for social distancing and hygiene, while using great care to avoid injuries or mishaps so as not to further stress our health care providers at this challenging time. Likewise, if you are coming from afar to stay in the area, please follow self-quarantine guidelines from the CDC and come prepared with your own provisions, knowing that local restaurants and businesses are largely closed and/or under pressure to meet the needs of local community members.
Know that the work helping to preserve and protect Acadia National Park continues, even if we may not be able to interact with you on a face-to-face basis. We appreciate your continued understanding and support. It was wonderful to see so many people out enjoying the park this past weekend. The spiritual and physical benefits of exposure to Acadia’s abundant sunshine and fresh air are an incomparable source of healing and comfort for all, now more than ever.
