Telling the Stories of Acadia While Gaining Valuable Experience
The Acadia Digital Media Team is a seasonal team made up of college students studying photojournalism, film, and other communications areas. The team collaborates with Friends of Acadia and Acadia National Park field staff to tell important stories via photo and video, while gaining valuable work experience.
The goal of the Acadia Digital Media Team is to provide Friends of Acadia and Acadia National Park with visual content for use on both on the Friends of Acadia and National park official websites, as well as social media and in various print forms, including Acadia: The Friends of Acadia Journal.
The Acadia Digital Media Team helps expand viewership for the mission of Friends of Acadia. With the gaining popularity of social media, the team’s work is another way Friends of Acadia connects with young adults on global platforms.
The team also manages digital media interpretation and helps rangers educate park visitors during the peregrine falcon program at the base of the Precipice and produces live-stream broadcasts for Friends of Acadia events.
Students participating in the Acadia Digital Media Team gain professional experience that furthers their visual storytelling abilities and learn how to create and implement communication plans. Past members of the Acadia Digital Media Team are now working full-time in the non-profit, state, and federal sectors as visual communication professionals.
