Friends of Acadia Seeks Consultants for Economic Studies of Acadia

Bar Harbor, Maine — Friends of Acadia has released a request for proposals (RFP) for research to refine, add to, or complement data on the economic impact of Acadia National Park. The park celebrated its centennial last year, generating a record 3.3 million visits. The National Park Service estimates that visitors spent more than $274 million during their trips to Acadia in 2016, creating almost 4,200 jobs, and generating labor income of more than $111 million. This annual economic assessment uses data from counties within a sixty mile radius of the park, and may not fully reflect the visitation and travel patterns as people come and go from the park. The assessment also may not include secondary economic effects, such as decisions to retire or take a job in the area due to the park. The RFP released by Friends of Acadia is designed to give researchers leeway in proposing a study that will supplement economic information known about the park. Proposals are due August 23, 2017.
