Acadia National Park Advisory Commission meeting announced

BAR HARBOR, MAINE -The Acadia National Park Advisory Commission will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2017, at Acadia National Park headquarters, 20 McFarland Hill Drive, which is located off Eagle Lake Road (State Route 233) in Bar Harbor. The public is invited to attend and provide comment.

The Advisory Commission will report on the dialogue held with the Schoodic Peninsula communities on December 8, 2016, and discuss any reports from the Lands, Park Use, Science and Education, and History committees. Superintendent Kevin Schneider will provide updates on the Transportation Plan, intertidal zone management, and newly introduced boundary bill (H. R. 6218). Friends of Acadia will provide a separate update on its activities and programs.

Congress created the Acadia National Park Advisory Commission in 1986 to consult with the National Park Service on matters relating to the management and development of the park, including, but not limited to, the acquisition of lands and interests in lands. The Commission is composed of 16 members with three members appointed by the Secretary of the Interior, three members appointed by the Governor of Maine, and one member appointed by each of the following towns: Bar Harbor, Cranberry Isles, Frenchboro, Gouldsboro, Mount Desert, Southwest Harbor, Swans Island, Tremont, Trenton, and Winter Harbor.
