Friends of Acadia employs a full-time staff of 19 people in our Bar Harbor office. We also support seasonal positions in our office and in Acadia National Park, both through direct employment and through grants to the park.

These include the Summit Stewards (formerly Ridge Runners) , and Recreational Technicians, Stewardship Crew for the Stewardship Volunteer Program, the Wild Gardens of Acadia Internship and full-time and seasonal positions in the Friends of Acadia office. Positions hired by Acadia National Park will be indicated as such.

Summit Steward

Location: Acadia National Park Headquarters – Bar Harbor, Maine
Job Status: Seasonal non-exempt, 40 hours a week

The Summit Stewards are an interdisciplinary team that work alongside Acadia National Park (ANP) staff to improve the visitor experience and reduce visitor impacts in the park by engaging with over 15,000 visitors annually. Summit Stewards traverse the trails of Acadia promoting Leave No Trace stewardship, interpreting the natural and cultural resources, and performing trail maintenance to preserve trail sustainability. Summit Stewards spend 2 days per week on Cadillac Mountain’s trails and summit and 3 days per week on trails and summits throughout Acadia.

 

Lead Summit Steward

Location: Acadia National Park Headquarters – Bar Harbor, Maine
Job Status: Seasonal non-exempt, 40 hours a week
Employment Period: May 19-November 7, 2025
Compensation: Starting at $19.32/hr paid every two weeks

In addition to serving in the field as a Summit Steward, the Lead Summit Steward assists the Program Coordinator with daily team functions and organizational assistance. While some duties occur throughout the work week, they are primarily during the Coordinator’s days off.

 

Recreation Technician – Long Season Position Description

Compensation: $18.32/hr paid every two weeks

Stewardship Crew Members work with the Friends of Acadia (FOA) Stewardship Coordinator and the Acadia National Park (ANP) Volunteer Coordinator to facilitate a long-standing volunteer stewardship program on Acadia’s trails and carriage roads. The program works with weekly drop-in and service group volunteers (mostly youth groups), contributing greatly to the maintenance of Acadia’s natural and cultural resources.

 

Wild Gardens of Acadia Intern

Location: Wild Gardens of Acadia, Sieur de Monts, Acadia National Park – Bar Harbor, Maine
Job Status: Seasonal, non-exempt, 40 hours a week
Employment Periods: Early June through end of August, with opportunity to extend into October; total hours not to exceed 800.
Compensation: $18.32/hr. paid every two weeks

Located at Sieur de Monts in Acadia National Park, the Wild Gardens of Acadia is an important park destination with thirteen habitats displaying native plants in habitats that are similar to those found in the park. Habitats range from deciduous and coniferous woods to a beach, bog, pond, roadside, and mountain. A committee of volunteers, the Supervisory Gardener, and the Wild Gardens of Acadia Intern manage the Wild Gardens in partnership with the National Park Service and Friends of Acadia.

 

Seasonal Photographer/Video Producer

Location: Friends of Acadia Office and on location in Acadia National Park and surrounding communities.
Job Status: Seasonal non-exempt (40 hours per week/23 weeks)

Compensation: $20/hour paid every 2 weeks

The Seasonal Photographer/Videographer assists Acadia National Park (ANP) and Friends of Acadia (FOA) in the coverage and promotion of programs, events, and locations in the park that improve park visitors’ experience and engage the next generation of park stewards.

 

Seasonal Digital Content Creator

Location: Friends of Acadia Office and on location in Acadia National Park and surrounding communities. – Bar Harbor, Maine
Job Status: Seasonal non-exempt (40 hours per week/23 weeks)
Employment Period: May 27 – November 4, 2025
Compensation: $20/hour

The Digital Content Creator helps tell the stories of Friends of Acadia’s people, programs, and events through engaging social content, website posts, and stories in Acadia magazine. As a member of the Communications Team, they’ll create compelling content that drives home Friends of Acadia’s impact in Acadia National Park, drives engagement with current supporters, and helps grow membership.
