JOHN BENCH

Office and Facilities Manager

John is the office and facilities manager for Friends of Acadia, providing back-of-house
support to the entire team, ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of our office in Bar
Harbor. He also works with our vendors and contractors, providing project management
support to our off-site projects and facilities. Prior to Friends of Acadia, John spent 13 years
managing retail stores on Main St. in Bar Harbor, and 10 years as a web editor for Yahoo!,
riding out the dot-com boom and bust in Silicon Valley.

John, his wife, and two sons moved to MDI in 2006, having lived in California and Vermont,
before settling in Southwest Harbor. The travel bug bit them all early, making it a priority to
see the world as a family. Nearly a dozen countries later, and too many states to count,
they’re still racking up the frequent flyer miles. When staying closer to home, John can be
found hiking his favorite trails on the “backside” of Acadia with his 4-legged friend, Pearl, or
honing his BBQ skills as a professional pitmaster.
