Join Us for Friends of Acadia’s 25th Annual Earth Day Roadside Cleanup on April 25 — Registration Is Now Open

Help clean up roadsides across Mount Desert Island and Trenton

BAR HARBOR, ME — Registration is now open for Friends of Acadia’s 25th annual Earth Day Roadside Cleanup, taking place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Join us for this long-running volunteer event and help care for Acadia National Park’s surrounding communities by picking up trash that has gathered over the winter. Volunteers will collect roadside litter from multiple locations around Mount Desert Island and Trenton, helping keep our neighborhoods, waterways, and park clean.

Gather your family, friends, coworkers, and fellow roadside-cleanup enthusiasts — or join on your own and meet new friends. Friends of Acadia invites volunteers of all ages to participate.

“Earth Day Roadside Cleanup is a wonderful way for people to make an immediate difference in the communities surrounding Acadia,” said Brian Sale, Friends of Acadia’s stewardship manager. “As we mark the 25th year of this event, we’re grateful for the many volunteers who continue to show up year-after-year. And if this is your first time joining, we can’t wait to see you!”

Advance registration is requested by April 17 so that individuals and groups can be assigned a clean-up location and meet-up spot. We will do our best to accommodate location requests.

On the day of, bring your positive attitude, a reusable water bottle, closed-toed shoes, and appropriate clothing for the weather. Trash bags, safety vests, gloves, water, and a light snack will be provided.

Last year, volunteers picked up 372 bags of trash from roughly 40 miles along Route 3, Route 233, and Route 102 in Mount Desert Island and Trenton.

We encourage everyone to celebrate Earth Day all year long by keeping the roadsides trash-free. Please dispose of your trash appropriately. Recycle what you can and put the rest in trash cans. With just a small amount of individual effort, together we can reduce the amount of trash in our communities and help protect our shared lands and waters.
