Middle school students from Hancock Grammar School were gathered on picnic tables outside plotting coordinates on maps they had created when Maine Education Commissioner Pender Makin visited the Schoodic Institute on Sept. 30.

Makin was there to see the Schoodic Education Adventure (SEA) program in action.

The SEA program offers middle school students a chance to engage in outdoor learning experiences on Maine’s coast, facilitating education outside of the classroom. The Schoodic Institute works together with Acadia National Park in this program, as students learn about their natural surroundings from park rangers in addition to educators from the institute.
