Friends of Acadia employs a full-time staff of 19 people in our Bar Harbor office. We also support seasonal positions in our office and in Acadia National Park, both through direct employment and through grants to the park.

These include the Summit Stewards (formerly Ridge Runners) , and Recreational Technicians, Stewardship Crew for the Stewardship Volunteer Program, the Wild Gardens of Acadia Internship and full-time and seasonal positions in the Friends of Acadia office. Positions hired by Acadia National Park will be indicated as such.

Job Opportunities

Stewardship Manager

Park Headquarters, Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, ME with field work in the park and the ability to work remotely at times
Reporting to: Vice President of Conservation with assistance from the Acadia National Park Volunteer Coordinator
Job Status: Full-time (32 hours) Exempt
Anticipated Start Date: March 2nd, 2026

The Stewardship Manager primarily manages the Stewardship Volunteer Program to help maintain Acadia’s trails and carriage roads. The Stewardship Program includes Drop-In style volunteer projects that occur three days a week (May – October) as well as pre-registered service groups. In conjunction with Acadia National Park’s Volunteer Coordinator and the Leadership Team of the Volunteer Crew Leaders, the Stewardship Manager sets safety protocols and training for the Stewardship Volunteer program, supervises seasonal staff, and manages the program May – November. Recreation Technician

Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, ME
Reporting to: Recreation Technician Manager
Job Status: Seasonal non-exempt (40 hours)
Employment Periods: May 20 – November 9, 2026

Two “Rec Techs” will assist Acadia National Park (ANP) staff to better understand visitor use management and recreation-related impacts on the landscape. The Recreation Technicians are funded by Friends of Acadia, work closely with Acadia National Park’s Social Scientist, and are managed by Friends of Acadia’s Recreation Technician Manager.

Summit Steward

Reporting to: Summit Steward Manager
Job Status: Seasonal non-exempt (40 hours)
Employment Periods: May 26 – August 20, 2026 (up to 3 positions available), May 26 – October 28 (up to 3 positions available)

The Summit Stewards are an interdisciplinary team that work alongside Acadia National Park (ANP) staff to improve the visitor experience and reduce visitor impacts in the park by engaging with over 15,000 visitors annually. Summit Stewards traverse the trails of Acadia promoting Leave No Trace stewardship, interpreting the natural and cultural resources, and performing trail maintenance to preserve trail sustainability. Summit Stewards spend 2 days per week on Cadillac Mountain’s trails and summit and 3 days per week on trails and summits throughout Acadia. Summit Stewards work under ANP’s Visitor Experience and Education Division and therefore must comply with National Park Service volunteer agreements and standards.

Lead Summit Steward

Job Status: Seasonal non-exempt (40 hours)
Employment Period: May 18 – November 4, 2026

In addition to serving in the field as a Summit Steward, the Lead Summit Steward assists the program manager with daily team functions and organizational assistance. While some duties occur throughout the work week, they are primarily during the manager’s days off (Saturday/Sunday).

Stewardship Crew Member

Reporting to: Stewardship Manager
Job Status: Seasonal non-exempt (40 hours)
Employment Periods: May 26 – August 21, 2026 (1 position available), May 26 – November 13 (1 position available)

The Stewardship Crew Members work with the Friends of Acadia (FOA) Stewardship Coordinator and the Acadia National Park (ANP) Volunteer Coordinator to facilitate a long-standing volunteer stewardship program on Acadia’s trails and carriage roads. The program works with weekly drop-in and service group volunteers (mostly youth groups), contributing greatly to the maintenance of Acadia’s natural and cultural resources.
