National Trails Day: Take a Virtual Tour of Ocean Path

Learn about the area’s history and recent rehabilitation projects with Acadia National Park Trails Foreman Gary Stellpflug and Trail Crew Supervisor Chris Barter.

The Ocean Path is a popular place to meander in Acadia National Park. It’s no wonder why – the path boasts stunning seaside views of crashing waves against vast slabs of pink granite, and its easy-going terrain makes it welcoming to walkers of all abilities.

It’s also been around for quite some time. The Ocean Path was the first established route along the ocean in the area, dating back to 1888 – possibly even earlier.

In honor of National Trails Day, a national effort to give back to the trails we love and ensure all people have access and feel welcome in these treasured spaces, take a virtual tour of the Ocean Path and get to know it a little bit better.

Acadia National Park Trails Foreman Gary Stellpflug and Trail Crew Supervisor Chris Barter lead the way and share some interesting history about the Ocean Path as well as recent rehabilitation projects completed by the trail crew and other staff.

It’s a perfect blend of backstory and future-focused work that’ll help ensure this splendid coastal trail continues to be a place where we can all walk and find ourselves mesmerized.
