Trail Closures for Sections of Great Meadow Loop Expected Beginning August 26

Beginning August 26, 2024, visitors to the Great Meadow Loop should expect trail closures as trail work and rehabilitation continues.

The sections where closures are expected include:

  • The pull-off along Cromwell Harbor Road at Ledgelawn Cemetery down to the trail bridge along Great Meadow Drive
  • The section of trail along Cromwell Harbor Road, turning onto Kebo Street.

Closures will be in effect while work in those areas takes place. Signage will direct visitors to alternative routes.

These improvements are designed to enhance recreation by making the trails safer, more accessible, and better able to endure climate change impacts.

These sections of Great Meadow Loop are outside Acadia National Park boundaries and are part of the Village Connector Trails that provide car-free access to the park from other locations around Mount Desert Island.
The Great Meadow Loop is accessed off Cromwell Harbor Road in Bar Harbor and connects to Jesup Path, Kebo Brook Trail, and the Hemlock Path.

A portion of Great Meadow Loop along Great Meadow Drive, which is within Acadia National Park boundaries, closed for trail work in June and remains closed.
