All Hands On Deck: New Boat for Acadia

The 2023 All Hands On Deck Paddle Raise supports the acquisition of a much-needed replacement boat for Acadia National Park.

Acadia National Park is known for the striking and complex patchwork of park lands across Mount Desert Island, the Schoodic Peninsula, and Isle au Haut.

The park also currently holds conservation easements on 184 properties in 18 towns, most of which are on offshore islands.

Transporting people and equipment to those locations requires one of the park’s two boats, both of which are aging and inefficient.

A Modern Boat Is Critical To Acadia

Acquiring the funding to purchase an upgraded vessel would allow the park to have a safer and more functional boat that enables direct beach access to just about any island.

This boat will allow for the unloading of people and equipment directly on the shore for maintenance, resource management, wildland fire, and law enforcement.

It will reduce personnel time and provide ample seating and cargo space, which reduces the number of necessary trips. And newer, modern marine engines burn cleaner, more efficiently, and with less spillage/dripping of oil.

Let’s raise our paddles this August!

Funding will support the acquisition of a boat similar to the one pictured (Image of Munson 26′ Series)
