Winter trail grooming is done by NPS volunteers of the Acadia Winter Trails Association page. and must be done at times that are both convenient and safe. Volunteers may groom the carriage roads if new snow exceeds six inches, and the roadbed is frozen.

Update 2/5/2026 9 a.m.: Volunteer Groomer Mark is about to head out to clean up the Aunt Betty Loop this morning—he says he should be done by 11am. Last night he groomed the Eagle Lake Connector, Witch Hole Loop, and Paradise Hill Loop.
Update 2/1/26 9 a.m.: Volunteer groomers Phil and Jake are headed out in about a half hour to connect Eagle Lake-Tubledown-Amphitheater and try to widen the groomed area by knocking down the large drifts there.
Volunteer Mark is also heading out now to clean up tracks and footprints around AB loop, he is planning to make two passes with the 6′ drag. He spent a lot of time yesterday trying to fill in footprints in the center of the skate lane and kindly reminds walkers to please stay to the far side of the groomed surface opposite the classic tracks to avoid post-holing and damaging the groomers’ hard work.
Update 1/31/26: Volunteer Groomer Mark made two passes around Eagle Lake Connector, Witch Hole, and Paradise Hill. Volunteer Groomer Matt made a pass around Aunt Betty Loop and said it looked great for skate and the classic tracks excellent. Volunteer Groomer Phil packed and tracked Upper Around Mountain to Eagle Lake.
Update 1/30/26 4 p.m. This afternoon, Volunteer Groomer Phil made two passes, packed and tracked for skate and classic, on the Amphitheater loop. Volunteer Groomer Mark packed and tracked Witch Hole Loop, Paradise Hill Loop, and the Eagle Lake Connector for classic and skate.
Update 1/27/26 5 p.m.: The Acadia region received a lot of snow during yesterday’s storm. Groomers have been working hard to pack things down where they can, and it’s a long process because of the volume of snow we received. We also have encountered a slight hiccup—the AWTA Kubota is having mechanical problems due to the extreme temps of the past week, so it is not in service at this time while repairs are made.
Groomers say that conditions are excellent to set your own tracks or enjoy those set by others. They are hopeful the trails will be fully groomed by the end of this week.
We will share updates as we have them!
Update 1/23/26 4 p.m.: Volunteer Groomer Jake is over on the Brown Mountain side, doing one pass on each section, in an attempt to establish a good foundation before the very cold temps this weekend and expected snow accumulation Monday.
Update 1/23/26 2 p.m.: Volunteer Groomer Jake is out over on the Brown Mountain side. He started at the Parkman Connector, grooming for skate skiing. He is now starting on Upper Around Mountain and says the classic track looks to be in good condition. He is grooming and setting new track where it’s needed. Thanks, Jake!
Update 1/23/26 12 p.m. : Volunteer Groomer Matt just finished Aunt Betty’s skate lane setting new classic track where he could. He says, “Looks pretty good for the most part with a few icy spots here and there.”
Matt has handed the sled off to Volunteer Groomer Mark who is now working on Witch Hole and will hopefully finish with Paradise Hill.
Thanks, volunteer groomers!
